Hypnosis Frequently Asked Questions
Hypnotherapy FAQ's
What is the purpose of hypnotherapy? To make positive,
healthy changes to the body and mind. Hypnotherapy is used to enhance your
mind's ability to heal the body. Within your subconscious mind (your inner
mind), you hold all your habit patterns. By gently quieting your mind, and
going directly to the cause of your issue, clinical hypnotherapy can guide your
mind to let go of an unwanted habit or mental blocks, thereby reaching your
goal.
Will I be in control during the session? Yes, our
clients report feeling in control of their thoughts, at ease with the process
and aware of everything taking place during their sessions. As Dr. David
Spiegel, Wilson Professor and Associate Chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral
Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine was recently quoted, in
Yahoo Health News, as saying,
"Part of the mythology about hypnosis is that you're going to take
over some ones mind. What you really do is teach people to take better control
of their own mind and body." During a hypnotherapy session, you enter a
state of absorbed awareness, not unlike losing oneself in a good book or
favorite piece of music.
Can anyone be hypnotized? Yes. Our process is very
simple and highly successful. What many do not realize, is that we go in and
out of hypnosis all day long. When we daydream, that is a form of hypnosis.
When we are driving our car and arrive at our destination, (realizing we gave
it no conscious thought), that is hypnosis. Hypnosis is simply a state of mind
where your conscious, or "busy" mind has quieted.
What are some of the issues that your clients have
overcome? Performance issues, (becoming better at a given sport),
Weight Issues, Medical Conditions, (e.g., Restless Leg Syndrome, Ticks,
Pre-Surgery anxiety, Pre-menopausal symptoms, (e.g., hot flashes, moodiness and
sleeplessness), Anxiety, (or excessive worry thoughts), Chronic Pain,
Addictions, (e.g., Alcohol dependency and Smoking), Anger Issues as well as
Emotional Pain from past experiences.
I've heard that you have to go into a deep state to get the
desired result, is this true? No. On the contrary, most of our clients
report being very aware, alert and present during their sessions, allowing them
to be in control. Our specialized form of hypnotherapy allows people to be in
either a very light state of relaxation or a very deep state. It does not
effect the outcome of the therapy. We have worked with many clients who have
only been in a light state of relaxation/hypnosis and still reached their
desired goals.
